Venezuela in 5 minutes: ‘Inflation is projected to reach 10,000,000 percent in 2019’

On this week’s episode of the Outbreak News This Week Radio ShowI did a whole hour with infectious diseases pathologist and clinician at the IDB Biomedical Research Institute in Barquisimeto, Venezuela and founder of the Venezuelan Science Incubator, Dr Alberto E. Paniz-Mondolfi.

The show was about the multiple epidemics situation in the country; however, Dr Paniz-Mondolfi gave us a 5+ minute thumbnail description of the economic and political turmoil that ensued after the Bolivarian revolution.

The nationalization of industry, the oil collapse and currency issues were all highlighted.  Paniz-Mondolfi says these policies have “wreaked havoc” in the country.

The inflation rate was predicted to reach 1,000,000 percent in 2018; however, as he notes, it reached 1,370,000% and is projected to reach 10 million percent this year!

Dr Paniz-Mondolfi also emphasized the crime and violence and healthcare crisis currently engulfing the failed state.
