Vegas homicide: Thomas Collins’ remains found by hiker
The Clark County coroner’s office on Tuesday identified the skeletal remains of a hiker found Dec. 30 in Mountain Springs and are now investigating the case as a homicide.
Thomas Collins, 60, was found by the hiker around 4 p.m. on that day and Las Vegas officers responded immediately to discover “skeletal remains” in the unincorporated area south of the Spring Mountains between Las Vegas and Pahrump, Metro spokesman Officer Jesse Roybal said Tuesday.
Because the site was so rural, Collins’ remains weren’t found until later that night said Metro Lt. Harry Demetrus. Search & Rescue then recovered his body, Metro Lt. David Gordon added.
As of Tuesday, Roybal said the case was not being investigated as a homicide and the coroner’s office is working to determine Collins’ cause and manner of death.
