Vanessa Kirby cast in ‘Mission Impossible 6’, still set for summer 2018
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation made star out of Rebecca Ferguson and she is expected to return of the franchise’s sixth film. News has now landed though that The Crown star, Vanessa Kirby, has been cast as a new female lead.
Variety reported the news, confessing there is no real details, but stated that “The role is expected to be on the same level as Ferguson’s in the last pic.”
Director Christopher McQuarrie will be return to helm MI:6 with Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Alec Baldwin and Ferguson reprising their respective roles from previous films.
“In the past, the female lead role has helped propel actresses such as Ferguson and Thandie Newton into leading lady status,” Variety added. “While Claire Foy has received a lot of the accolades for her performance in Netflix’s The Crown, Kirby has also received plenty of praise for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth’s sister, Princess Margaret.”
No other information has been released, but expect that to change as the film is set to arrive in theaters, next summer on July 27, 2018.
There were rumors of Renner passing on the film due to scheduling conflicts, but expect that to work itself out.
While promoting Arrival, Renner said:
“MI6, I’m not sure what’s happening. I think it’s going to be coming down to…I know that they’re really wanting to get it going, and I haven’t spoken to Tom yet about where it’s at. I know there might be some conflict with schedules, so I’m not sure what’s going to happen.” Renner said while promoting his latest film, Arrival.
“Avengers is gonna eat up a lot of next year. Gladly, but I certainly hope it doesn’t ultimately get in the way of Tom and I and the gang getting back together for that because I’d love to.”
