Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.
Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
Russell Crowe has also been cast as Dr. Henry Jekyll, Fellow of the Royal Society with Annabelle Wallis rumored to be playing either a scientist or an archaeologist, and scriptwriter Jon Spaihts has written a role specifically for Jake Johnson (Jurassic World) to be used as comedy relief.
Courtney B. Vance has been cast in an unknown role. He played attorney Johnnie Cochran on The People v. O.J. Simpson, is perhaps best known for his roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent and The Hunt for Red October.
Universal is attempting to build an overlapping franchise starring the Classic Monsters similar to the Marvel Universe. Next up is a new version of The Invisible Man that will star Johnny Depp, a reboot of Van Helsing, some sort of remake of The Bride of Frankenstein, and The Wolfman.
The Mummy movie has a release date of June 9, 2017.
