Sources from Universal are now telling Variety that there is “no truth” to the rumor that Damon and Greengrass are in negotiations to return, but they may not be a denail.

Twitch is reporting that Universal is currently in negotiations with Damon and Greengrass to both return to the Bourne franchise, which would be a really significant development for the series.  Universal attempted to get Damon and Greengrass back after The Bourne Ultimatum, but the two couldn’t figure out a worthwhile story and Universal didn’t want to wait, so the studio moved forward with The Bourne Legacy.

The studio has hired Sherlock Holmes and Invictus screenwriter Anthony Peckham to pen the script for another Bourne movie.

Legacy was a story about Renner’s Aaron Cross, who was among a group of agents who took part in Operation Outcome. Medically enhanced to be smarter and physically superior, the agents were targeted for termination. Renner starred with Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton.

Frank Marshall and Captivate Entertainment’s Ben Smith and Jeffrey Weiner are producing the new one.
