Understanding Thanos for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ through ‘Avengers 3’
Marvel fans will get their full look at Thanos in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film. After a brief reveal to close out Avengers, the popular villain will be revealed as the puppetmaster behind the collection of the Infinity Gems.

Damion Poitier played the character in the first film, but news broke that Josh Brolin has been hired to bring the character to life. Now Vulture reports that Thanos will be appearing first as a hologram in Guardians communicating with Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) and Nebula (Karen Gillan.)
Thanos will make a full appearance in the film, but is referenced throughout. In the comic book prelude written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, it is revealed that Gamora, Nebula and Korath were trained by Thanos, who is Gamora’s father.

In the Bloomberg Businessweek profile of Kevin Feige, it was a thinly veiled spoiler from the Guardians of the Galaxy that an unnamed villain sits on a throne floating in space – which is how Thanos travels. Check out the photo below.
Guardians director James Gunn had previously commented that his film is “definitely tied to Avengers 3;” it’s easy to foresee a blockbuster third film whereby Thanos has finally acquired all of the stones and, with the Infinity Guantlet, making him unstoppable.
Just to confirm this plotline, Marvel dropped the Benicio del Toro scene as The Collector at the end of Thor: The Dark World as the Asgardians handed over the deadly red Aether. The blue Tesseract was already revealed to be one.
So, buckle up, Thanos is coming!
