Trump pulls US out of Iran deal, Obama ignores reality, says it’s working
President Donald Trump is terminating the United States’ participation in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran as it failed to protect America’s national security interests. He has now directed his administration to immediately begin the process of re-imposing U.S. nuclear-related sanctions which will target critical sectors of Iran’s economy, such as its energy and financial sectors.
“It is clear to me we cannot prevent an Iranian nuclear bomb under the decaying and rotten structure of the current agreement. The Iran deal is defective at its core.”
Trump continued, saying, “America will not be held hostage to nuclear blackmail. We will not allow American cities to be threatened with destruction and we will not allow a regime that chants ‘death to America’ to gain access to the most deadly weapons on Earth.”
Trump attacked former President Obama’s legacy as an embarrassment to him as a U.S. citizen, saying, “At the point when the U.S. had maximum leverage, this disastrous deal gave this regime, and it is a regime of great terror, many billions of dollars, some of it in actual cash. A great embarrassment to me as a citizen and to all citizens of the United States.”
Those doing business in Iran will be provided 90-day and 180-day periods of time to allow them to wind down operations in or business involving Iran. Those who fail to end such activities with Iran by the end of the period will risk severe consequences.
Obama seemingly ignores reality, issuing this claim: “The reality is clear. The JCPOA is working – that is a view shared by our European allies, independent experts, and the current U.S. Secretary of Defense. The JCPOA is in America’s interest – it has significantly rolled back Iran’s nuclear program.
“Walking away from the JCPOA turns our back on America’s closest allies, and an agreement that our country’s leading diplomats, scientists, and intelligence professionals negotiated.”
He didn’t mention that even Saudi Arabia and the UAE approved of Trump’s decision, not to mention Israel.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio called for Trump to exit the Iran deal: “The deal’s first major flaw is that it enriched Iran and empowered it to destabilize the Middle East. The agreement released roughly $100 billion in frozen assets to an Iranian government that the U.S. State Department describes as the “foremost state sponsor of terrorism.” It also required the U.S., European countries, and the United Nations to relieve key national and multilateral sanctions measures that had economically isolated Iran.”
Samantha Power, who served as U.N. Ambassador under Obama and was an ardent supporter of the deal, slammed Trump with two tweets on Twitter: “I will never forget the dark cloud that hung over the White House in the years Iran was advancing nuclear program & Obama was briefed on all the risks of using military force. (1/2) https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/993877703601291265 …
“Trump has demolished America’s credibility & paved the way for Iran to re-start its nuclear program. Trump has done the unthinkable: isolated the US & rallied the world around Iran. The costs of using military force have only increased. (2/2)”
Ben Shapiro countered her absurd response: “Now tell us about the dark cloud hanging over Syria and Lebanon and Israel and Saudi Arabia because you strengthened the biggest terror sponsor on the planet https://twitter.com/samanthajpower/status/993883348236931074 …
“YOU are actively rallying the world around Iran. https://twitter.com/samanthajpower/status/993883349520351232 …“
“We strongly support President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from this unacceptable Iran deal,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, President of Christians in Defense of Israel, and Founder and Chairman of Covenant Journey.
“The only country that benefited from the Iran deal was Iran. The Obama administration lied to the American people and the world, airlifted hundreds of millions of dollars in cash to Iran during the night, and watched Iran’s continued march toward its goal of becoming a nuclear threat. The nuclear deal gave Iran, the world’s foremost state-sponsor of terrorism, a clear path to an atomic arsenal. This deal should never have been concluded. President Trump’s decision reverses Obama’s failed foreign policy and protects Americans and our closest allies in the Middle-East from this malicious regime,” said Staver.
