Tragedy in Mexico: 10 members of La Reyna de Monterrey killed in car crash
At least 10 members of a Mexican Banda music group were killed in an auto accident in northern Mexico Saturday morning, according to a Fox News Latino report yesterday.
Five others were reported injured in the crash.
The members of La Reyna de Monterrey were in a van that was returning from a Friday night performance in Nuevo Laredo when the driver of the vehicle dozed off Saturday morning, causing the vehicle to strike the side of a truck then cross over into the other lane and crash head on with a tractor-trailer.
The Associated Press reports that an official said the impact was so powerful that many band members were thrown from the vehicle onto the highway connecting Nuevo Laredo and Monterrey.
On the band’s Facebook page, they posted from the road headed back to Monterrey after the gig–“Back to Monterrey, thank God everything came out excellent in Nuevo Laredo, thanks to all the friends who joined us and thanks to the good friends of Laguito Barr for all your attentions.”- Computer translated.
The condolences poured in on that post (all computer translated):
“It is very painful to my more felt condolences to the families of all the members of the band”
“Who was going to imagine .that are would be the latest photos. RIP”
“My most sincere condolences to family and friends nearby, no doubt a great lost, that in La paz, now Pope God call them to sing with los angeles :'(sorry if my words are not the stated but just as many have a knot in your throat”
And of course the post that pretty much sums it up–“descansen en paz” or “rest in peace”.
