Toni Marletta charged in New Jersey hit-and-run death of teen, Marisa Procopio
A New Jersey woman has been changed in a hit-and-run accident that left a teenage girl dead earlier this month.
Monmouth County prosecutors revealed that Toni Marletta, 49, was charged Wednesday with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a fatality and several motor vehicle violations. Marletta’s bail was set at $150,000 cash.
The July 7 accident caused the death of Marissa Procopio, 15, who was reportedly trying to cross Route 36 while walking home from work, when Marletta hit her. Authorities discovered Marletta’s vehicle parked outside her house that same night with damage consistent with the collision.
Marletta faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted on the leaving the scene of an accident charge.
Marissa was pronounced brain dead at the Shore Medical Center and the family chose to donate her organs.
Any witnesses to the crash are asked to contact Cpl. Thomas Russo of the Middletown Township Police Traffic Bureau by calling 732-615-2140.
