Tommy Lee Jones cast as CIA brass in new ‘Bourne’ film with Matt Damon
The new untitled Bourne movie just added an Oscar winner in Tommy Lee Jones to join Matt Damon in the popular spy series.
As Variety reported, Jones “will play a superior officer at the CIA” comparable to the roles played by Edward Norton, Chris Cooper, Brian Cox and David Strathairn in previous Bourne movies.
Director Paul Greengrass returns with Damon and Julia Stiles, reprising her role in the first three films, and actress Alicia Vikander, who abandoned a role opposite Michael Fassbender in the Assassin’s Creed adaptation.
“Damon’s three Bourne movies, the first of which was released in 2002, grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide at the box office. Damon last played the iconic role in 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum, and Jeremy Renner stepped into the franchise with 2012’s Tony Gilroy-directed The Bourne Legacy,” Variety summarized.
Jones is a heavy hitter, needing no introduction after his award-winning role in The Fugitive, to his time on the Men in Black franchise and even the military leader in Captain America: First Avenger.
Lord of the Rings star Viggo Mortensen has been rumored to be playing the villain in the film, scripted by Damon, Greengrass, and Christopher Rouse, with a characters credit to Robert Ludlum.
Expect a ton more news, especially an official title as the fifth Bourne film is scheduled is set for release on July 29, 2016.
