Tom Mison on ‘Sleepy Hollow’ season 2 costume, driving, karaoke and more
Tom Mison and the hit show Sleepy Hollow are back for a second season and Mison refers to the sophomore season as “the tricky second album.”
“Last season people were … expecting us to be terrible,” Mison says of the Fox mythical drama during recent interviews. “Let’s be honest … (the show’s premise is) quite a bold idea. Last season: low expectations. This season: high.”
Sleepy Hollow is set in modern day, when Ichabod Crane (Mison) awakens after being killed in the Revolutionary War. He must adjust to the new time period, battle the headless horseman and prevent the apocalypse with the help of police Lt. Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie). He’s also trying to reunite with his wife, Katrina (Katia Winter) in a weekly battle with super natural creatures and events.
The entire cast was on hand during the NYCC, taking questions and doling out details, with fans thinking that romance will bloom between the two main characters.
“He’s a guy, I’m a girl, and they’re like, `There should be kissing involved,”‘ Beharie says with a laugh. “I didn’t see that happening. Not at all. … That happens in some shows, but they’re sort of focused on saving the world and the apocalypse, so I don’t see Abbie wanting to fight over the same romantic guy in any way.”
The shoot in North Carolina can make the actors uncomfortable, especially Ichabod his long, heavy overcoat. Mison says can be “very close to unbearable” when the weather is very humid.
“The noises that I make when the wig comes off and that coat comes off,” he joked. “I’ve never experienced joy like it.”
“Yeah, whenever I hear about the Game of Thrones shoot, I always feel sorry for people like Kit Harington, who are in the freezing cold, snowy—I think they’re in Iceland or somewhere. Which is cool—I’d love to go to Iceland. But working in the snow, and then you get other people who are in Malta for three months…”
Speaking to TV Guide, Tom Mison makes it clear that one of these said techniques to keep Ichabod relaxed may end up being yoga:
“Abbie’s trying to teach him to chill out and we do yoga together. She says, ‘You know, it’s the 21st century. You’re allowed to show your emotions. You’re allowed to open up.’”
Some other notables: Beharie says Sleepy Hollow will be more character-driven this season, Ichabod will learn to drive and discover karaoke.
