‘Thor 2’ and ‘Captain America 2’ get official titles and logos at Comic-con
Marvel Studios presented some interesting and exciting news for fans at the San Diego Comic-con on Saturday. Marvel debuted the official titles and logos for the sequels to 2011’s “Thor” and “Captain America” blockbusters.
“Thor: The Dark World” will be the title of next fall’s film featuring Chris Hemsworth’s return as Thor. No further details were revealed regarding a shift in tone for the character or Asgard itself.
Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios CEO, did confirm the sequel will be filming in London and all of the cast is set to return. Feige also reiterated during the panel that Loki has a role, but a new “big villain” will be a part of “Dark World” as film expands on the relationship between Thor and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).
Captain America is also getting a sequel, which is titled: “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
Feige explained that “Winter Soldier” will take place post-“Avengers” with Steve Rogers working alongside S.H.I.E.L.D. in modern times. Even though comic book fans know Winter Soldier is the name for Bucky after returning from the dead (similar to the origin story of Captain America), but details were not released.
Anthony and Joe Russo are working on the screenplay for the Cap sequel.
Marvel is calling this set of new films “Phase 2” with “Iron Man 3” currently in production, (Marvel also rolled out a benign logo for that film as well) and confirmed a “Guardians of the Galaxy” film for an August 1, 2014 release.
Edgar Wright was introduced to update and confirm “Ant-Man” film plans. “Ant-Man will kick your ass one inch at a time,” Wright joked.
“Thor: The Dark World” comes to theaters November
“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set to come to theaters April 4, 2014.
