‘This is Winter Jam’ documents the passionate, Christ-based tour with behind-the scenes footage and live music

The largest Christian music tour is Winter Jam and This is Winter Jam is a powerful documentary taking fans behind the scenes, giving insight into NewSong and other organizers to take the shows to over 50 cities annually. Skillet, For King & Country, David Crowder, Jeremy Camp, Matthew West, Francesca Battistelli and some of the top names in Christian Music take the audience back stage and are featured during live performances.

Flashing back to over 20 years earlier, Eddie Carswell of NewSong and promoter Roy Morgan explain the original plans, getting the large arenas and praising God and the miracles to shape the tour.

Filmed over two years, moviegoers travel between concert footage to commentary and back stage access and back to the artists delivering their most intense music.

For fans seeking to watch a full show or a series of live performances, This is Winter Jam may have disappointed. This is a spiritual journey from $3 tickets to the powerful testimonials behind the curtain and off stage.

The Winter Jam fans packing arenas will love the presentation. Crowder is particularly endearing despite brief appearances, as his humor and love of God make him inforgettable.

Both members of For King & Country (Joel and Luke Smallbone) were certain to appeal to fans and newbies alike, for their music and their antics backstage.

Trip Lee gave a powerful intro to the look at the hundreds of employees working to move the tour around the country. The logistics alone are amazing to visualized and pull the curtain back reveal the buses and trucks transporting ten bands nightly for a seamless performance.

Michael Tait, TobyMac, Colton Dixon and others share great stories and, as Lauren Daigle summarized, the goal is to “tear down all of the walls and just be human together.”

I’m personally tethered to Winter Jam and I admit that over the last few years covering the shows, meeting the bands, talking with them about corn hole and Jam Church, I was excited to see more with This is Winter Jam – I was NOT disappointed.

Below is some of my favorite interviews over the last couple of years and I promise what you saw on screen matches up to what you heard on air when I spoke with the artists, the members of NewSong and even the fans. Winter Jam is a unique and powerful ministry tool and it was great to see it captured on film to share with the world.
