Danny Williams: ‘This is my heart, it’s my health, and it’s my choice’: I couldn’t agree more
You probably have heard of the story of Newfoundland and Labrador premier Danny William’s “choice” to have a leaky heart valve repaired. The words in the title of this piece are his, not mine.
As a matter of fact, even his Canadian physician recommended he have the micro surgery outside the province. Why not Toronto, or Montreal?
Well because in Canada the alternative course of action is quite invasive surgery where his sternum would need to be opened up. Why wouldn’t such an advanced health care system like Canada not have the capability of micro-surgery?
I don’t blame Premier Williams, I would want to be treated at the best hospital with the best surgeons and technology possible also. As he said in an interview, he was only doing what was best for him.
And think about it, this is not just some everyday schmuck, he is a premier, a man of means and power and influence.
What about the average Canadian Joe? Tough luck I guess.
Mr. Obama, Mr. Reid and Ms. Pelosi and the rest of Washington, this should be an eye opener for the Washington policymakers and even more importantly, the American citizen.
Choice is a wonderful thing America, don’t forsake or forget it.
