Theresa Clinton, Florida teacher, upsets parents by bringing ouija board into the classroom
A Florida Middle School teacher has causes some concerns for parents after allowing a Ouija board to be brought into her classroom to promote her books.
The Burns Middle School teacher, Theresa Clinton, didn’t foresee the reactions from parents.
According to Hillsborough County School District spokeswoman Linda Cobb, teacher Theresa Clinton has been cautioned after parents of students at Burns complained about the presence of a Ouija Board in her class.
“The teacher has been cautioned to consider the type of reactions the parents might have about what she brings into the classroom,” said Cobb.
Clinton is the author of a book readers age 8 to 12 called “The Ouija Board Diaries: Summoning the Spirit.” Cobb said Clinton brought some of her books, along with a Ouija Board, into her seventh-grade classroom for display.
The book revolves around 12-year old Janie who has just moved to a new town and discovers that she lives in a house with the ghost of a teen girl. With the aid of a Ouija Board, Janie begins to unravel the mystery of what happened to the teen girl.
Tbo.com quoted Tim Ellefson, an upset parent who has a student in Clinton’s class.
“We’re Christians, and we try to raise our son to be a Christian,” said Ellefson. “My belief is good spirits are in heaven. Bad spirits come from the other place. And I don’t want my children connecting with bad spirits.”
“We felt we should have been given an opportunity to select what our children view and had the opportunity to say no on such a controversial subject has a Ouija board.”
