‘The Wolverine’ sequel gets ‘Green Lantern’ writer,
The upcoming sequel to The Wolverine as landed a new writer, Michael Green, who is set to write the Blade Runner sequel with Ryan Gosling, rework the Prometheus 2 script — all this after surviving the disastrous effort as the Green Lantern scribe.
According to The Wrap, Green has signed on for the upcoming Wolverine film starring Hugh Jackman with director James Mangold returning.
“Green recently worked with Fox, as he was brought on to revise Jack Paglen’s script for Ridley Scott’s sci-fi sequel Prometheus 2. He was also one of four writers credited on Ryan Reynolds‘ Green Lantern movie, and wrote the Blade Runner sequel with original writer Hampton Fancher, based on an idea by Fancher and producer Ridley Scott. Denis Villeneuve will direct the film, which will star Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling,” The Wrap summarizes.
Mangold is directing the sequel, which is expected to be Hugh Jackman‘s last time playing the mutant and a higher priority for Mangold after The Deep Blue Goodbye was delayed due to Christian Bale’s knee injury.
Green is the co-executive producer on the Heroes TV show,
“Green is currently working on the action-packed script with Mangold’s input,” they add.
Fans are expecting/hoping for an adaptation of Old Man Logan – a comic book story which sees the former-superhero bury his Wolverine persona after an all-out assault results in the world finally succumbing to the super-powered villains.
This seems impossible since Fox doesn’t own any of the rights to many of the key characters needed to make the film a worthy adaptation.
The new Wolverine film is slated to hit theaters on March 3, 2017.
