‘The Wire’ star Seth Gilliam joins cast ‘The Walking Dead’ season 5, may be Gabriel Stokes

The third former cast member from The Wire has joined the cast of The Walking Dead for the upcoming fifth season.

Seth Gilliam is set to “play a character listed on the breakdown as Michael Todd, though his real name is being kept under wraps,” reports Deadline. 

“Michael is described as having two sides, displaying a friendly, puckish humor but also having a haunted side stemming from a dark secret,” the article states, noting the possibility that he may be Father Gabriel from the graphic novel.

Yahoo.UK notes that “It makes a lot of sense that Gilliam will be playing the reverend as Rick and his group first encounter Stokes after the fall of the prison and when they are still having difficulties with a group of cannibals known as ‘The Hunters’…. and though it has not yet been confirmed that the people at Terminus are cannibals, all signs suggest there is a high probability that they are. As long as the showrunners do not intend to deviate too wildly from the comics, then Stokes is due to appear soon.”

Father Gabriel Stokes appears to be a relevant addition, joining the group and helping escape Terminus and head to Washington. This would also spawn the interesting debate over the existence of God.

“Eugene and Stokes have some very interesting conversations revolving around the existence of a higher power so expect there to be some arguments and an increasingly controversial edge if Gilliam really is going to be playing the role of Gabriel Stokes.”

Both Larry Gilliard Jr and Chad Coleman were part of the hit series The Wire.
