‘The Revenant’ leads Oscar nominations, ‘Mad Max’ ‘The Martian’ ‘Force Awakens’ all get noticed

The 88th Academy Awards nominations were announced on Thursday morning and The Revenant led the field, earning nods in 12 different categories, including Best Picture, followed by the popular Mad Max: Fury Road film, earning 10 nominations, also included in the Best Picture category.

The Martian was another big winner as Ridley Scott’s sci-fi survival tale landed five nominations, including a Best Actor nomination for Matt Damon. The biggest film in US history, Star Wars: The Force Awakens managed to land four nominations, including Best Film Editing and Best Sound Editing.

Scott was joined by Steven Spielberg on the “snubbed” list by Deadline: “After putting out one of his strongest films in years, Spielberg was snubbed by the DGA earlier this week and now the Bridge of Spies helmer and two-time past Oscar winner has been left out in the cold by the Academy.”

The 88th Academy Awards will be held on February 28th. The ceremony will air on ABC, and will be hosted by Chris Rock. Check out the complete list of nominations below.
