The Republican Party of Florida Tries to Rewrite History…Again

There is always a raging debate going on from both sides of the aisle each election year. “We just can’t let them [the other party] win.”

How many times do we hear that in the media, at meetings and as we talk to our fellow citizens?

Charlie Crist, likely running for Governor of Florida as a Democrat, is already under attack from the GOP. Legit? Snitker tells us what he thinks. Official Governor photo of Charlie Crist

No matter what the choices are, the other one must be worse. Even if you do not like the candidate you are choosing it is far better than “that one” over there. Year by year we are faced with the same problems and given the same two choices as the solutions only to get ourselves in deeper with the same problems.

Is “that one” really better than this one? For once, I think we can clearly call out the hypocrisy of the false choice dichotomy. In the 2014 governor’s race you will have, Rick Scott (the current Republican) against Charlie Crist (the former Republican).

So I ask you is there really any difference? The Republican Party of Florida seems to think so.

In a new attack ad against Charlie Crist, the Republican Party of Florida slams the former governor of raising taxes after signing a pledge not to raise taxes on the citizens of Florida. What they forget to spell out in the ad, is that it was the Republican House and the Republican Senate in Tallahassee who put out the proposed budget that was signed by (then Republican) Charlie Crist.

Another great piece of information left out, was the budget signed that year (2009) was $66.5 billion. Their current Republican (and so-called fiscal conservative), Rick Scott, has just signed his budget for 2013 at a resounding  $74 billion, raising the budget by nearly $8 billion dollars in the wake of a devastating housing market crash and a struggling-to-survive economy.

In the end, it was the Republican Party of Florida that is responsible for both of these men being in the governor’s mansion. Every veto and signature rests on them. Of course today, they want to make it sound like it was the “evil democrat,” Charlie Crist, that has done these terrible things in office but his only fall from the GOP thrown was the “hug heard ’round the world.”

If the “tan man” Charlie wasn’t such a “hugger” and had not embrace President Obama, he would still be the shinning star of the RPOF. They would still be holding him with high esteem and we may even be hearing rumblings of a 2016 Presidential run on the GOP ticket. Has this one man changed that much since his voter registration card switched letters?

Of course the Democrats have vehemently complained about the Republicans but they have supported these endeavors. Legislation has gone through with little opposition from the Democrat side of the aisle. Both sides have little disagreement and it is theater at best as they pass every bad law with a rubber stamp of approval.

They even embraced the former Republican, Charlie Crist with open arms (sometimes literally). Maybe they just want to win this time or they finally see in reality there is no difference between them. They have been the enablers of the Republican 3 ring circus in Tallahassee.
While the Democrats or no better, there is only one party that has lead us down this road to perdition in recent times and it has been the Republican Party of Florida. They have led both houses in Tallahassee and held the governor’s mansion for nearly two decades. The brought us Charlie Crist and made him the man he is today.
Now the same people who brought him into power and proudly voted and campaigned for him are shouting from the roof top that we can not let “him” in office. If they feel so strongly, why did they put him there to begin with is what I want to know.
If there ever was a time when there was no difference at all between the two parties it is in 2014. This is the year to say no to “politics as usual.” It is time to let both parties know that you are on to their game and you aren’t playing any more. Do not continue to encourage them with your membership or loyalty.

It is time to leave.

The Republican Party is to blame for the last 17 years in Florida with the Democrats applauding the effort and no one can rewrite that in the history books.
