The New Trend for Your Home’s Garage: Epoxy Flooring

If you’re looking to revamp your garage, the best thing to do is to start with your garage flooring. This one simple change has a tremendous effect, transforming your garage into a beautiful space where you’ll love to hang out and one of the best and most practical options is garage floor epoxy.

If you haven’t heard much about it, now is a great time to find out. Epoxy flooring is one of the toughest flooring options available and the great thing is it will not cost you a fortune! It’s so durable that you don’t need to do a lot of maintenance on it so it’s a great investment.

But aside from durability, what other benefits does garage floor epoxy offer?

Stunning, Creative Designs at a Fraction of the Price

Want your garage to look like a professionally designed space? Usually, that would require significant costs. Aside from paying the designer, you would also need expensive materials such as marble, etc. and that is very expensive.

But you can achieve a marble look on your garage flooring using epoxy coating and the costs is nowhere near a marble floor. There are tons of color and design options when you do a garage floor epoxy.

A solid or pure metallic epoxy flooring features a shiny and reflective finish that looks incredibly stunning. It almost looks and feels like you are standing on ocean waters. There is a magical effect on its surface so it’s often the number one choice for commercial spaces.

Now, it’s becoming more and more popular in personal garage flooring. It can make an ordinary garage look like a commercial space. If you’ve always wanted marble flooring, garage floor epoxy is your best alternative. It will give your floor a smooth glass-like finish.

Other design options for epoxy flooring include flake epoxy. That’s if you prefer a non-metallic coating. Instead of a glass-like finish, you get a rougher appearance and another of its advantage is that it’s slip-resistant.

The multicolored flakes that are used inside a flake epoxy flooring create a variety of unique designs. You can choose a finer or coarser finish depending on the size of the flakes. Flake epoxy is very versatile and you can also create mosaic finishes similar to terrazzo floors.

What Exactly is Garage Floor Epoxy?

Now that you know just how beautiful a garage floor epoxy can look like, what is exactly is epoxy flooring? The main thing to note is that it’s not paint. It consists of resin that is applied as coating to your garage flooring.

Epoxy is formed by mixing resin with a polyamine hardener. The hardener works like a catalyst and makes the epoxy flooring incredibly durable. When these two are mixed, the result is a thick coating that bonds to your floor’s surface.

Benefits of Epoxy Flooring on Your Garage

There are so many reasons why you should choose garage floor epoxy for your garage flooring. Here are some of them.

Environment Control

Garage floor epoxy is extremely resistant to many elements that could eventually degrade your garage flooring. It resists moisture, dirt, and other chemicals so it’s an ideal option for those who live in rainy and snowy climates.

Because it is resistant to dust and dirt, these things do not spread out throughout your garage and whatever items you store in your garage which will require you to clean less. Dirt and dust typically come into your garage by foot or brought in by your vehicle.

Garage floor epoxy works like a sealer so it is very unlikely that you will have a dusty garage. Your garage will be cleaner, safer, and a lot easier to maintain.

Epoxy Flooring Maintenance

As mentioned, epoxy garage floor requires very little maintenance. To clean, all you need is a mild soap and a mop and that takes care of any scratches or dust that has accumulated, probably over long periods of time. You don’t need to do this too often as compared to other types of garage flooring.

During winter, in areas where it snows a lot and when roads are coated with salts, epoxy flooring offers a great advantage because it will be easy to clean any icy brines and road salts. It is moisture resistant so these things will not collect on your garage flooring.

You can easily clean up dust and debris with a dust mop or a soft broom.

Chemical and Stain Resistant

Another advantage of garage floor epoxy is that it is resistant to stains and other chemicals. If you’re a person who does a lot of home projects in your garage, this can prove very useful.

Things like oil, brake fluids, along with other car chemicals can easily be wiped out without a hassle even if it has been sitting there for a long time.

Resistant to Damage

Your epoxy garage floor will also be less prone to damages no matter your activities in your garage. If you work with rolling tool boxes or jack stands, the floor will not be easily damaged or scratched.

Brightens Up the Place

Best of all, epoxy flooring is a great way to brighten up your garage space because it reflects light especially if you choose a solid metallic finish.

Applying Epoxy Coating to Your Garage Flooring

Epoxy floor coating is very easy to apply. You just need to do the necessary preparations and repair any damages before application.
