The NBA and the Large Free Agency Payouts

On July 1, the first day of NBA free agency, over $1 billion dollars was spent by team owners and general managers. The period of mass NBA superstar movement, also know as Free Agency, lasts from July 1st to the 9th. There are all kind of rules about who can move and who can’t move, and the action is intense.

Players are moving from NBA team to team, and it’s all due to a new television contract that will allow for a $24 million dollar increase in the salary cap for the players. Players who are considered average are making far above what anyone anticipated. Hassan Whiteside, who was making a mere $1 million dollars last year, signed on the first day with the Miami Heat for $98 million dollars over four years. Kevin Durant held meetings in New York before signing with The Golden State Warriors. After Durant, the second most watched player was Al Horford of the Atlanta Hawks. Many experts thought the former University of Florida player would stay loyal and remain with his current team, but he decided to head to Boston.

Some other interesting moves on days one and two included Luol Deng formerly of Miami Heat to the Los Angeles Lakers and Timofey Mozgov of the National Champion Cleveland Cavaliers also moves to the Lakers for a four year, $64 million dollar deal. Staying put is DeMar Rozan of the Toronto Raptors who was offered $145 million dollars for five years. The money is flowing and the entire process is hard to stay abreast of.

If your head is spinning and you need a reliable internet service to stay up to date then search by zip at Broadband Search for the latest NBA shakeups.  You’ll be able to see if Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade will leave the only team he has ever played for more money, who is now making more money than Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, and see if LeBron James will stay with his hometown Champion Cleveland Cavaliers or follow the dollar signs to a new team and zip code. The action off the court may actually be more exciting than the tip off in the fall.
