‘The Flash’ update: Production begins, Grant Gustin in costume
The CW released the first look at star Grant Gustin in costume for the Arrow spin-off, The Flash.
The recent news is that John Wesley Shipp has been added to the roster, playing what is only being described as a mysterious person, but who will gradually become a more important part of the storyline. Shipp is remembered as having played the title character in CBS’ short lived series The Flash in 1990.
Law & Order and Rent star Jesse L. Martin as Detective West, an older mentor and father figure to Barry, as well as father to Iris West, played by Candice Patton.
Rick Cosnett (The Vampire Diaries) and Danielle Panabaker (Shark) have joined the pilot’s cast as a pair of characters presumed to be villains with Charlie Weber set to play Barry’s mom Nora.
Panabaker’s character is Caitlin Snow, “a highly intelligent bioengineering expert who lost her fiancé during an explosion at S.T.A.R. Labs.”
Eddie Thawne is almost certainly a variation on Eobard Thawne, who in the comics goes by the codenames Professor Zoom and Reverse-Flash.
In the show, through a freak accident, scientist Barry Allen (Gustin) is given the power of super speed that transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive.
Production has just begun in Vancouver with a fall debut increasingly likely.
