‘The Flash’ set for October, pilot reviews, ‘Arrow’ season 3 tie-in, Professor Zoom
Leaks and rumors surrounding The Flash have all been positive. With a concrete debut set, the pilot “leaked” online for a few fans to drop positive reviews and comments. The Mirror published a ton of tweets which are mostly rave reviews for the show.
The full CW roll-out will include replaying the two Arrow episodes featuring Barry Allen on Wednesday October 1 with the premiere set for October 7. An encore of the show will air after the Arrow season 3 premiere on October 8.
One of the biggest positives is that the show introduces a ton of new characters, quickly expanding the DC Universe and it’s great to see a superhero take down a villain without a viral of serum to give him special powers.
Episode one will confirm that Arrow (a brief appearance is certain) and Batman appear in the same universe with Flash, which coincides with the rumors linked to the Dawn of Justice film. Most important is that Grant Gustin is winning over fans: “Killed it” writes Up Roxx.
From the pilot Professor Zoom is presumably the murderer of Barry’s family and is setup as a great villain opposite the star. John Wesley Shipp will play Barry’s father, not exactly a fit for die-hard comic fans.
“Believe me, Kreisberg, Berlanti and Johns, these guys are smart. They love the character and they know what they’re doing…if people were disappointed that I’m not playing Jay Garrick because they wanted to see the baton passed, they’re going to get that. It’s going to be in the context of father/son so that it will appeal to a wider audience.” Schipp has a great interview about the shows, fans and more – check it out HERE
Rick Cosnett praised the creators when speaking about the role as Eobard Thawne (aka Zoom, Reverse Flash) “Oh my gosh, it’s exciting, it’s terrifying… and it’s magical, you know? It’s been quite a journey, but it’s just a wonderful show, beautiful cast. Such good hands with the crew and director and producers, so I’m very lucky to have landed here.”
“He’s very calm, he’s very nice, he’s very golden. He’s a good guy… he’s almost flawless, you know? He sort of sweeps in and saves the day, much to Barry’s dismay. Which creates a great tension I think for Barry because we’re friends, as well. That’s always kind of wonderful to play that between the two of us.”
The pilot is packed full of Easter eggs for the comic book fans (Grodd on a cage nodding to Gorilla Grodd, Wayne/Queen deal being done therefore linking the universes together) but the show is accessible to the novice fan.
The Flash is rumored to be teaming with Green Lantern in a feature film, more here, and the show does drop a Ferris Airways reference, connecting the universe to Carol Ferris and therefore, Lantern.
