The first ‘Punisher’ trailer highlights violence as Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle comes alive

The full Punisher trailer released by Netflix is truly brutal. Fans will flock to the streaming service to watch Frank Castle’s (Jon Bernthal) standalone series.

In speaking to EW recently, Bernthal spoke about making sure he and the creators get this story right (and fans of Marvel’s series on Netflix will surely be hoping it can avoid the pitfalls of those other series).

“The show takes you on this journey of Frank becoming more and more human again and then shutting off and shutting off and going back to what works for him, and the place where he kind of belongs, and I think that’s a place of solitude and of darkness and destruction. It’s going to get into as dark and as brutal a place as you’ve ever seen in the Marvel world, I can promise you that.”

Netflix has still not revealed the premiere date for the series, but the early remarks from some creators is a November release timeframe. Check out the new trailer below.

Dearbhla Walsh told The Hollywood Reporter that she had traveled to the United States to helm an episode of the series. “One other time [I directed stateside] that hasn’t been aired yet, which was an episode for the new Marvel series The Punisher, which I did just before Christmas, but it’s not airing until November.”

Bernthal will be reunited with Daredevil‘s Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page. Daredevil’s love interest formed a bond with Frank during Daredevil season 2 so he role as the cutting edge journalist may prove valuable for the Punisher’s quest for revenge and a spirit of normal for the tormented soul.

The other cast members include Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman, and Michael Nathanson.

The Knick star Nathanson will play a Homeland Security agent Sam Stein with Amber Rose Revah (Emerald City, Indian Summer) playing Stein’s partner, partner Dinah Madani.

Frank Castle’s loyal friend and technology expert will be played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach with Jamie Ray Newman cast as his wife. Barnes is set as the head of a private military corporation, a military leader during Frank’s tour in Afghanistan and certain to become the Punisher’s greatest nemesis: Jigsaw.

“We couldn’t have asked for a more talented group of actors to round out the cast of Marvel’s The Punisher,” said Executive Producer and showrunner Steve Lightfoot in a statement. “It’s a thrill to watch them each bring their characters to life with such layered, nuanced performances.”

“Marvel TV is very proud of the cast of The Punisher,” said Executive Producer Jeph Loeb, “Each actors brings a special promise who surround Jon Bernthal’s exceptional performance.”

Moore’s Curtis Hoyle is “a friend of Frank Castle’s and one of the few people who knows he is alive” with Paul Schulze as Rawlins, “a high-ranking member of the CIA whose operations in Afghanistan intersect with Frank Castle.”

Expect the Punisher to arrive November.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Punisher:

After exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone.
