‘The Cabin in the Woods’ director will helm ‘The Sinister Six’ Spidey film
Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off The Sinister Six has found itself a director, with Heat Vision reporting that Drew Goddard has been officially confirmed to be writing and directing the upcoming film. The April 7 article notes “The Cabin in the Woods helmer Drew Goddard is nearing a deal to direct Sinister Six, the Spider-Man spinoff that he’s also writing.”
Goddard is a key part of Sony’s big plans to expand their Spider-Man franchise with two more films and two spin-off projects.
The Sinister Six will deal with a group of Spider-Man’s (many) enemies, with the sextuplet in question comprised of Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman, Mysterio, Vulture and Kraven the Hunter.
Plot details are non-existent at this stage, although Sony’s Amy Pascal did recently reveal that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will begin to set up The Sinister Six. Electro (Jamie Foxx), the Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan) are the villains in Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Goddard is also working on writing the Daredevil TV pilot for Marvel.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 3D on May 2nd.
While the official date hasn’t been announced, it’s increasingly likely The Sinister Six will land in 2017. Sony recently set release dates for both Spidey 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 for June 2016 and May 2018
