The Best Way to Experience NYC by Sea

While many are accustomed to venturing to a city and exploring the many different areas on foot, by bike or by vehicle, anyone visiting New York City has the additional option of experiencing the metropolis via the water. Gaining in popularity, the cruise choices are many. The ports and harbors in and around the city feature a number of private boat and yacht owners who regularly charter cruises. Depending on the type of experience preferred, vessels sail along the coast or up and down three different rivers.

By sea, guests have the chance to view seven bridges, cruise to the five separate boroughs that make up the city, and take in the sights of more than 25 world-famous landmarks. Guides offer an array of fascinating facts about the Manhattan skyline, South Street Seaport and the United Nations building as passengers record the event on cameras or video cameras.

Dinner Cruises

Speed Boat Adventures
If strolling around the city seems boring and conventional cruises a bit mundane. Perhaps after a day of sightseeing you need feel the need for something more exhilarating. A number of companies offer adrenaline pumping adventures aboard customized speed boats. Capable of carrying more than 100 passengers, the vessels accelerate to speeds of up to 45 miles per hour. Experience the salt water spray of the harbor as the famous landmarks of the “Big Apple” flash past. The rides generally last a full 30 minutes and are restricted to passengers of at least 40 inches in height.
