‘The Americans’ season 3 coming, ‘Legit’ and ‘Chozen’ still up in the air
The popular Cold War drama, The Americans, is likely to be seeing a third season, based on comments by one of the FX executives on Wednesday.
Networks CEO John Landgraf revealed that the network’s drama series The Americans will be renewed for a third season.
“I expect we’ll have a formal Season 3 order announcement soon”, the exec confirmed, speaking at an upfront breakfast event in New York.
The fate of the network’s comedy series Legit and Chozen, Landgraf was a bit more hesitant to confirm new seasons. “We’re going to let them finish their current seasons and look at their ratings”, he said.
Landgraf has been complimentary of the show’s development and quality in the second season.
“And you just look at Season 2 … just that extra few weeks in the writers’ room, going into production—that amount of time has made a huge difference in everything: in the writing, in the production design, everything.”
Adweek notes the viewership: “Through the first six episodes of Season 2, The Americans is averaging 1.43 million viewers and a 0.5 in the adults 18-49 demo, and while the live-plus-same-day deliveries are hardly robust, the show does a brisk business in playback. Per Nielsen, the season premiere jumped 81 percent in the demo upon application of live-plus-three-day data, and because so many of those views were delivered via on-demand platforms, the commercial content went largely unskipped.”
The Americans airs Wednesdays at 10 PM ET/PT on FX.
