‘The Americans’ season 2 update: Press kit secrets, first five episodes feature Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys
The FX Cold War drama is set to return and the new press kit gives fans a look into the second season of The Americans.
A manila envelope bound in black and red string arrives with redacted documents as a means to promote the next season of the popular show.
Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys co-star as the two Soviet spies living in the US as a normal suburban family and season 2 promises to explore how Philip and Elizabeth’s “activities” affects the family.
“This season is all about their family,” says Russell. “Last year was about [Elizabeth and Philip’s] marriage. But they are a unified front now, and they’ll be dealing with the things everyday parents do.” Plus the usual espionage stuff: “Getting shot at the end of last season has shaken Elizabeth on a massive level. She’s not exactly cutting it as a spy. But does it shake her feeling about the cause? I think she’s still pretty into it. Elizabeth is hard-core.”
All of the major characters are back for season 2: Noah Emmerich, Richard Thomas and cast members Annet Mahendru (Nina), Alison Wright (Martha) and Susan Misner (Sandra Beeman) upped to series regulars, while Margo Martindale will return as Claudia for several episodes, despite her commitment to CBS comedy The Millers.
The first five episodes of season 2 are:
2.01 “Comrades” (airing Feb. 26)
2.02 “Cardinal” (March 5)
2.03 “The Walk In” (March 12)
2.04 “A Little Night Music” (March 19) and
2.05 “The Deal” (March 26).
The Americans return to FX on February 26, 2014.
