Thai model, Jessica Amornkuldilok wins ‘Asia’s Next Top Model’, Philippine’s Stephanie Retuya is runner-up

The first ever “‘Asia’s Next Top Model” was a close call between models from Thailand, the Philippines and Taiwan; however, someone had to come out on top Sunday evening–and that was 27-year-old Jessica Amornkuldilok from Thailand.

Jessica bested 13 other Asian beauties to win the contest and modeling contract. She was followed by 23-year-old Stephanie Retuya from Laguna, Philippines and Taiwan’s Kate Ma.

None other than “America’s Top Model”, Tyra Banks compared Jessica for being a model verb, and Stephanie for being a model noun.

The winner, Jessica is a 27-year-old, 177cm German-Thai who established herself as a favourite on the show when she won the “best photograph” competition three weeks in a row.

Runner-up Stephanie Retuya is a part-time model and a full-time mother to a baby girl who returned to modeling last year. She has appeared on  Philippines’ Preview Magazine and modeled for the Tomato clothing line.

The winner of Asia’s Top Next Model will win the following prizes: 100,000 Singapore dollars, a modeling contract with Storm Model Management, a three-month all-expenses paid working trip to London, an opportunity to appear on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Singapore, a chance to become the new face of the Canon IXUS 2013 campaign, and a brand new Subaru XV.

An extensive online search took place for the selection process. Models of Asian descent were encouraged to apply, but were required to speak and write in perfect English. All applicants were required to be between the ages of 18-27 and be at least 5’7, which follows the same format as the American counterpart of the show. Girls who previously participated in a national Top Model franchise could still apply for Asia’s Next Top Model as long as they were not the winner, and were not professional models or endorsing any product or brand.

The reality show began with 14 contestants from Thailand, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
