Texas teacher Sharon Wilbanks killed in murder-suicide by husband at a store
A woman who was gunned down Monday night in an apparent murder-suicide in a parking lot in South Bexar County has been identified as Sharon Wilbanks, an East Central Independent School District teacher by school officials.
Wilbanks was found by Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies alongside of her husband, both dead in the parking lot of Greenway Grocery. The officers were dispatched to the area for reports of a shooting around 8:40 p.m., according to BCSO.
Preliminary details released by the Sheriff’s Office are that the husband slammed into the back of Wilbanks’ car during some sort of rolling dispute, prompting her to stop.
The man got out of his truck and shot Wilbanks dead in the parking lot, then turned the gun on himself, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The woman had been a district employee for 15 years prior to her death in the 1100 block of U.S. 181, according to ECISD spokeswoman Stevie Gonzales.
Gonzales said Wilbanks worked as a paraprofessional in the Harmony Elementary School computer lab teaching kindergarten through third grade.
