The Corsicana Police Department in Texas have identified the victims in a double murder suicide as Vanesa Mendoza and her sisiter, Nancy Castillo, both shot and killed by Mendoza’s estranged husband, Rosalio Mendoza.

Rosalio and Vanesa Mendoza

Castillo,28, called 911 to report the confrontation on the 2100 block of Navarro Dr., telling police that she was the sister of the woman arguing with Rosalio Mendoza who had a gun.

Castillo told the dispatcher she heard a gunshot.

Police were immediately dispatched and found Castillo lying in the front yard with gunshot wounds. Efforts to save the woman were in vain and she pronounced at the scene.

Cpl. Kenneth Dunagan kicked in the front door of the house and went inside with Officer Michael Worthy to find the body of Vanesa, 27, and and Rosalio, dead from self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

Police think Rosalio forced his way into the back door of the house, where Vanesa’s body was found, and made his way into the bedroom Castillo was hiding in and shot her as she was trying to escape through the bedroom window.

At home were the couple’s three children, ages 7, 3 and 1, who were not harmed in the shooting and are now with family.

From the time the 911 call was received until the time officers arrived on scene and made entry, was less than three minutes.

“What I think you’re going to find is that the entire community is hurting,” Corsicana Chief of Police Robert Johnson said.

Rosalio, 36, had been arrested years ago. His offenses were between 2000 and 2006. One being a third-degree felony as he assaulted a public servant. The most recent report stated the last time Rosalio had a run-in with the law was in 2012, he was held in contempt at court.
