Texas homeowner David Stephenson shoots, kills ‘burglar’ Destey Tinner, then dies of heart attack

Police claim that they are still trying to piece together what happened in a late night shooting in Arlington, Texas which left one man fatally shot and the homeowner who shot him dead from an apparent heart attack.

Police say thy responded to a home invasion call, but claim that  Destrey Tinner’s death may not have been a burglary gone bad since there’s evidence he know the shooter: David Stephenson.

“There have been some indications from neighbors that some type of at-risk behavior could have been occurring at this residence,” Sgt. Paul Rodriguez wrote in a new release issued Thursday afternoon. “Detectives will be looking into what exactly led up to this confrontation between the two men as the investigation continues.”

The reported burglary turned into a strange case as police arrive to find Tinner, 24, on the ground outside with a gunshot wound to the chest. Tinner was taken by ambulance to Medical Center of Arlington.

Police had not even had a chance to interview Stephenson, 54, when the man began to show signs of medical distress, Rodriguez said.

Stephenson was also taken by ambulance to Medical Center of Arlington.

Both men were subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Rodriguez said Tinner previously lived down the street from the shooting, adding that investigators are continuing to collect evidence and interviewing Stephenson’s wife and contacts.

“Detectives are still trying to determine what occurred at the home. Early information indicates that Mr. Stephenson and his wife were in the garage, when Mr. Tinner approached them. As such, Mr. Stephenson’s wife witnessed at least part of the altercation that occurred,” Rodriguez wrote.
