Texas: Arthur Manahan arrested for Ashaundre Grimes murder outside of a 7-eleven
Police in Lubbock, Texas have arrested Arthur Lee Manahan, the man wanted in connection to the murder of Ashaundre Grimes last week outside of a 7-eleven.
Manahan was apprehended just after after 2:00 p.m. Friday in the 6400 block of York Drive by Lubbock Police and the Texas Anti-Gang (TAG) Center.
Officials stated that Manahan was the person of interest in the shooting death of Grimes, 21.
Police were called for shots fired at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Two vehicles were in the convenience store parking lot with Manahan in one and Grimes in the other. A police report said shots were fired from one vehicle to the other.
Officers found Grimes with a “life-threatening” gunshot wound. Grimes was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Police added that it appears Grimes got into an altercation with a suspect in the parking lot of the convenient store just prior to the shots being fired.
The man who accompanied Grimes reportedly told investigators that Grimes drove them to the store and parked next to the vehicle where the shooter sat in the front passenger seat. The man said he didn’t know the shooter who he described as having “a lot of tattoos on his face,” and then identified Manahan as the shooter from a photo.
He said Grimes exited the vehicle and walked over to the other vehicle and spoke with Manahan. However, he said he could not hear the conversation and Grimes returned saying he wanted to leave because Manahan was “Tripping.”
The man said he entered the store to buy food. As he was entering the store, he said Manahan said something to him but he “defused” the situation. He told investigators he could see Manahan was armed with a black handgun.
The witness heard shots fired, exited and found Grimes dying.
A warrant was issued for the suspect: “Manahan is described as a black man weighing about 130 pounds and is about 6 feet, 1 inch tall, the release states. He has multiple tattoos including a teardrop under his left eye and the word “Loyal” on the right side of his face and the dates “5-12-80/3-22-02.” A tattoo across the front of his neck reads “On my own.”
Police received a 9-1-1 call around 1:40 p.m. Friday saying Manahan was in the area of the mall where he was ultimately arrested. He was taken into custody without incident after police set up a perimeter.
Manahan has been booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center, charged with murder and evading arrest.
