Texas 9-year-old, Aiden Steward, suspended ‘Hobbit’ game to make classmate disappear

A Texas school has suspended a 9-year-old boy after he told a classmate that he could make him disappear with a ring, referring to the powerful ring from The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings films.

Aiden Steward, a student at Kermit Elementary School, had just watched The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies and brought a ring to school and told another student that he could put the ring on his friend’s head and make him invisible.

According to the New York Daily News, Kermit school officials said that was a threat and suspended the boy. His father disagrees with the discipline action.
Martin Freeman as Bilbo with ring in Hobbit Battle of the Five armies“I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend’s existence,” the boy’s father later wrote in an email. “If he did, I’m sure he’d bring him right back.”
“Kids act out movies that they see. When I watched Superman as a kid, I went outside and tried to fly,” Jason Steward said.
“I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend’s existence,” the boy’s father later wrote in an email. “If he did, I’m sure he’d bring him right back.”
The school’s principal, Roxanne Greer, declined to comment on the suspension, saying that the school has confidentiality policies.
This is Aiden’s third suspension in the six months since the family moved to the area. Once for calling a classmate “black” and a second suspension for bringing a book to school that had a section on pregnancy and featured a pregnant woman illustration. The book was called “The Big Book of Knowledge.”
