‘Terminator Genisys’: Emile Clarke talks Arnold Schwarzenegger, new posters

The Terminator: Genisys marketing campaign hasn’t been shy about revealing the film’s major plot twist that creates a completely new dynamic from past Terminator films. The new character posters showcase that twist and star Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) discusses Arnold Schwarzenegger

Byung-hun Lee Terminator Genisys posterGenisys will star Clarke as Sarah Connor, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes star Jason Clarke as John Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese with Arnold returning again to play the titular cyborg.

“It never gets old. He was so much fun,” Clarke tells Harper’s Bazaar magazine. “I expected this massive ego to turn up, but he is this charming, sweet, kind man. He got really excited to film the scenes.”

“This Sarah has a different backstory,” she explains. “She’s grown up knowing what she had to do.” As did Clarke: Get strong. “The hours were so long and the guns were so heavy, so I had to get myself into a place where I wouldn’t crap out at four o’clock. And also I am the only girl, so I wanted to be like, ‘Hey, boys, let me give you a run for your money.'”

While she’s no household name, a role like this may change everything.

Game of Thrones opened a lot of doors,” she says. “It opened them all.” She has gotten her “badass” hit with Terminator—”that big, awesome storytelling. Like when you were a kid and you imagined it. That’s bonkers.” But now, “I’m wanting to do smaller character pieces, more serious things, less tennis ball and green sticks and special effects. For this next one I don’t need a stunt double or anything!”

Dayo Okeniyi, Courtney B. Vance, and J.K. Simmons also star.

Terminator: Genisys arrives in theaters on July 1, 2015.
