‘Terminator 6’: ‘SHIELD’ star Gabriel Luna cast as new Terminator, Natalia Reyes new lead in Tim Miller’s reboot
The new Terminator project is heating up with news as director Tim Miller’s reboot lands a new Terminator and a new leading lady.
Deadline is reporting that Paramount and Skydance’s upcoming Terminator sequel has tapped Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) to star as the latest version of the titular time-traveling killing machine. The Hollywood Reporter adds that Columbian actress Natalia Reyes (Lady, La Vendedora de Rosas) has also joined the cast in a starring role as Dani, a young woman from a working-class class neighborhood in Mexico City who finds herself in the battle between humans and machines.
Diego Boneta has also been added to the cast as Dani’s brother. These newcomers join returning franchise stars Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenneger, who are set to reprise their iconic roles and reunite for the first time since 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
THR notes that sources say their roles are relatively brief. Halt and Catch Fire star Mackenzie Davis is also set to star in the film as a soldier-assassin from the future.
Reyes’ character is being described as the Sarah Connor of the new trilogy while Luna’s Terminator will presumably follow in Robert Patrick’s footsteps as the villain.
Luna impressed as Ghost Rider on the SHIELD TV show and Cameron is touting the “discovery” of Reyes on par with the breakout turn for Hamilton in the original Terminator film.
The sixth Terminator film is slated for a November 22, 2019
