Teresa Sievers murder case: Sheriff gives goal to ensure ‘integrity of evidence is preserved
Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott spoke to the press to assure the public that his office is doing everything possible to solve the murder of Dr. Teresa Sievers, stating that the homicide as not ‘arbitrary’ and the goal is to ensure the “integrity of evidence is preserved.”
Sievers,46, was brutally murdered on June 29 in her Bonita Springs home.
“We don’t want a killer or killers on the streets,” Scott said, adding that it was his and his staff’s goal to make an arrest in the case.
“This is a priority for us. Our folks will do their job and won’t rest until somebody is in custody…Until we make an arrest, we don’t want to be premature.”
Scott stated that Sievers’ homicide was not an “arbitrary circumstance.”

The sheriff’s office released the incident report on the crime Thursday afternoon. The brief report only listed the time the crime was reported, 9:43 a.m. June 29, and the number of officers and units responding — 38 officers and 37 units.
The sheriff said it was “crime solvers 101 to lock your doors” in any area to make sure their homes and vehicles were secure, especially at night.
Scott confirmed that his investigators believe in the non-randomness of the crime and would not be releasing much in the way of evidence. This includes addressing some of the remarks from the neighbors to the press: the use of a hammer as the murder weapon, a male’s voice inside of the house and details on the vehicle in front of the home that morning.
“We just want to make sure the integrity of evidence is preserved,” he said.
Additionally, he said, evidence continues to come in, some just Wednesday afternoon as the friends and family mourn Dr. Sievers.
The sheriff said he realizes people are curious but that speculation by him would not help.
He said he’s seen the same things about the cause of her death and how she was killed in the news and can’t confirm or deny them. “You can’t control what people say,” he said.
