Teen pleads guilty for murdering 5-year-old Sida Osman with a bowling ball, tells family ‘I’m sorry’
A Texas 14-year-old boy pleaded guilty to fatally beating a 5-year-old with a bowling ball because he was irriated that the child wouldn’t stop asking to go to a store.
The courtroom of spectators looked on as the shocking details emerged of Sida Osman’s murder.
They were in the back yard of a vacant house, and the teen threw a 14-pound bowling ball at Sida’s head knocking him to the ground. The teen picked up the bowling ball, straddled the injured boy, and threw it down again onto Sida’s head — like a “football player spiking a football.”
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that he showed Sida’s body to three friends, they wanted to call an ambulance, but he said “no.” When Sida’s mother asked the teen whether he’d seen her missing son, he said nothing.
“I just want the family to know I’m sorry,” the boy said as he pleaded guilty to capital murder in his young neighbor’s death in exchange for up to 23 years behind bars.
Osman was found dead in the backyard of the vacant Fort Worth home in June, a day after he was reported missing while riding his bike.
“There were tears all over that courtroom,” said Assistant District Attorney Riley Shaw, who handled the case with prosecutor Brock Groom. “They were real tears from real people. This is a horrific, horrific case.”
Authorities are not identifying the boy because he is a juvenile.
