Ted Cruz: Peeling back the layers of a politician
Texas Senator and Republican Presidential candidate Ted Cruz is known generally as a small government conservative and has garnered great support, including from the cast of the Glenn Beck Radio Show, who sing the praises of Cruz daily.

However, what you see is not always what you get when it comes to Sen. Cruz. In addition to his somewhat fishy immigration policy stances, Cruz has now taken on the neoconservatives, calling it a “crazy” movement in recent interviews. An excellent group for small government conservatives to take, no argument here.
But if you peel back the layers of the Senator’s campaign, you’ll see much contradiction as to who has his ear.
As Senator Cruz blasts neocons, we see his National Security Advisor is none other than former Donald Rumsfeld director of research, Victoria Coates. Not familiar with Ms. Coates?
Coates is a also a former adjunct fellow at the neoconservative think tank, the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) and contributor to the William Kristol-edited Weekly Standard.
Coates has a notable history of supporting neoconservative foreign policy. She has been noted for her support of using American military power to spread democracy as well as her support of intervention in Syria. She has also called in the past for a no fly zone over Libya in 2011, and comparing Gadahfi to Saddam Hussein. She is on record as having supported the Iraq War.
According to the Institute for Policy Studies, the neoconservative leaning Coates has written, “In dealing with Libya and Syria, consistency need not be the hobgoblin of little minds but can rather be the hallmark of a consistent and coordinated foreign policy. There are equivalencies to be drawn between the two crises, and once these are recognized we should take equivalent action. It is not a decision to be taken lightly, but we would not be alone and the cause is just,” Coates wrote on her blog in February 2012. “We have the unified support of our European and Arab allies. We have moral and strategic interests at stake. Rather than whining about the shocking moral turpitude of the United Nations, the President of the United States needs to remember his responsibilities as the leader of the free world—and lead.”
And that’s just scratching the surface.
Senator Cruz also has been outspoken, rightly so, against the National Security Agency (NSA). However, his campaign chairman is Chad Sweet. Don’t know Mr. Sweet? He s the co-founder of the security-focused Chertoff Group, a group he started with former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff after serving as his chief of staff.
As a leader of the Chertoff Group, Sweet “advocated for expanding NSA metadata collection.” He has great neocon credentials and believes, according to Cruz himself, quite the opposite position on surveillance and the Fourth Amendment.
Wait, it only gets better…
Guess who else has the ear of Mr. Cruz? Neocon of neocons, former Ambassador John Bolton! Few have advocated military force and interventionism, including bombing Iran, more than Mr. Bolton. He is s foreign policy advisor for the neocon-slamming Sen. Cruz. Hmmmm.
This list continues and includes other neocons like former deputy national security adviser for George W Bush, Elliot Abrams and former CIA director, James Woolsey, who has called for the hanging of Edward Snowden after the contractor leaked information about the NSA collection of bulk metadata and link Iraq to the September 11th attacks, hours after the planes hit.
Ted Cruz is a very good politician, too good, and like really good politicians, Cruz has a great exterior.
Is Cruz the Reagan of this time? He may be and that’s not exactly a great complement ans Mr Reagan sounded very, very small government conservative; however, we got something else HERE and HERE
