TBCC: Charlie Cox talks ‘Daredevil’ ‘Defenders’ playing the blind Matt Murdock
Saturday Daredevil stars Charlie Cox and Elodie Yung took to the stage at the Tampa Comic-Con to discuss Netflix’s popular and highly rated Daredevil series. Cox began by praising the network and the subsequent “binge watching” experience it now creates.
“One of the great things of the way it’s formatted is that you just binge watch the whole season. You get to be settler with these journeys which as an actor I enjoy because we don’t have to remind everyone what they were watching and it allows for more to include in each episode. The only downfall is that you have to wait so long before the next show or season.”
“The quality of each show makes it easy to not really need publicity because it speaks for it self,” Yung added.
Cox praised the tone of the show, comparing it to the great work of Frank Miller.
“There have been so many versions of Daredevil and it’s amazing to read the comics and see what we are trying to create on this show. Artists like Frank Miller have portrayed this character so dark and I feel that we have brought this character to life.”
Fans got a preview of 2017’s Defenders, the union of all of the Netflix, Marvel heroes into one series to form one team.
“I just saw the trailers and I can’t wait to see how it all pans out, especially Matt’s relationship with Danny.”
“…the scene you are referring to is one take and after tons of rehearsing it and after the second take it was decent. Our director believed we could do better and we tried to do it but after all day trying to beat the early take we finally went with what I think was take 12.”
On playing the blind Matt Murdock, the Boardwalk Empire stars that “Honestly I have to adapt to where the camera is but it is actually frustrating. Situations, like when I’m patching up Elodie, Matt would just grab the stuff but here’s Charlie (moving his hands frantically), so it takes many takes.”
“I really feel that with the title of ‘Man without Fear’, it is important to realize that Matt does have fears and I really admire that he is willing to go up against those fears and that attribute is important in any person.”
Tampa Comic-Con runs all weekend.
