Tampa’s Straz Center welcomes the Sons of Serendip on April 12
The Straz Center for the Performing Arts presents Sons of Serendip on Thursday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Ferguson Hall, sponsored by Publix Super Market Charities and the Tampa Bay Times. These America’s Got Talent finalists wowed audiences with their serene, ethereal interpretations of pop music using voice, harp, piano and cello. With the success of their self-titled debut album, Sons of Serendip launched an international tour to showcase the quartet in their best possible setting: live – where their soulful renderings lift audiences to a sublime experience.
The quartet is comprised of four friends, who through a series of serendipitous events, came together in graduate school at Boston University. Micah Christian, a former teacher from Randolph, Mass., is the lead vocalist of the group; Cordaro Rodriguez, a former attorney from Charlotte, N.C., is the pianist and guitarist; Kendall Ramseur, a former cello instructor from Charlotte, N.C., is the cellist and vocalist; and Mason Morton, who is a former teacher from Atlanta, Ga., is the harpist for the quartet. They each have been playing their instruments since childhood.
The group gained national attention in 2014 when they competed on America’s Got Talent during the competition’s ninth season. Reinventions of songs such as Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game,” Duran Duran’s “Ordinary World,” and Evanescence’s “Bring Me to Life” gave them a fourth-place finish. In early 2015, they released their self-titled studio album, Sons of Serendip, which combined new versions of their America’s Got Talent favorites with similarly traditional pop-oriented covers. On the heels of their debut, they delivered the holiday-themed Christmas: Beyond the Lights. They returned in 2017 with their third studio album, Life + Love, featuring covers of songs by Stevie Wonder, Adele, the Weeknd and others.
