Tampa murder suicide: Juan Hernandez kills stepdad Michael Kurz, then self
Hillsborough County Sheriff are investigating a murder-suicide at an apartment complex in Tampa, identifying the victims as Juan Luis Hernandez and Michael Edward Kurz.
“Today we are saddened to report another senseless loss of lives as the result of family violence,” Sheriff Chronister said in a press release with the medai. “We encourage anyone who is in need of crisis intervention to call The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. They can be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week by dialing 2-1-1.”
Detectives arrived at the 42nd Street Apartments, near USF, to find Hernandez, 30, and Kurz, 59, deceased inside the home. On Tuesday morning, a woman called 911 to report that she found her son dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
She also found her husband, who was her son’s stepfather, dead from upper body trauma.
Both men lifted at that address and believe Hernandez killed his stepfather before turning the gun on himself.
Investigators say there has been no prior calls for service at this address involving the individuals in this case.
The family had recently moved to the area from St. Petersburg.
This is the 9th murder-suicide in Hillsborough County this year.
