Survey: College students very divided over being ‘Proud to be an American’
While the majority of Republican college students are very proud to be an American, according to the results of a new College Fix survey, only 8% of Democratic college students are “very proud to be an American.”
The new details published, based on polling 1,000 college students, asked “How proud are you to be an American: very proud, moderately proud, only a little proud, or not at all proud?”
From the Fix: “The vast majority (74%) of Republican college students, compared to a small number of Democratic college students (8%), and less than one-third of independents (30%), said they are very proud to be an American.
“On the flip side, 2 percent of Republican college students, compared to 22 percent of Democratic college students, and 11 percent of independents, say they are not at all proud to be an American.”
The new details were published at the end of September and illustrates the divergence of public opinion among young people.
“Among the middle, 24 percent of Republican college students, 58 percent of independents, and 69 percent of Democratic college students said they are either moderately or only a little proud to be an American.
“When broken down by race, the survey shows that in almost every category except American Indian, a majority of students are either very proud or moderately proud to be an American.”
Overall, “29 percent said they are very proud, 34 percent moderately proud, 23 percent only a little proud, and 14 percent not at all proud to be an American.”
