‘Supergirl’ adds ‘The Mentalist’ star Owain Yeoman as Vartox
The Mentalist‘s Owain Yeoman will be the first to battle CBS’ Supergirl, as the DC Comics character Vartox. The new TV series will capitalize on the popularity of comic book themed shows and movies.
The website i09 was first to report on the casting of Yeoman as Vartox, who hailed from the planet Valeron and boasted powers on par with those of Superman.
In his most recent comic book version, Vartox attempted to appeal to Power Girl in a plan of repopulating his infertile planet with the most supreme female specimen he could find.
TVLine reports that in CBS’ Supergirl pilot, Vartox is an alien convict who has been hiding on Earth for 12 years. After Supergirl’s emergence as a public hero, he seeks her out to ascertain her identity and do battle with her.
The Welsh actor played Benedict Arnold on AMC’s Turn: Washington’s Spies and roles on Extant, The Nine, Kitchen Confidential.
Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist in the title role with Mehcad Brooks (Desperate Housewives), Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal), Chyler Leigh (Grey’s Anatomy) and Jeremy Jordan (Smash).
