‘Suicide Squad’: Tom Hardy exits role of Rick Flagg
Tom Hardy has dropped out of Suicide Squad for reasons that are currently unknown, and Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to replace him, according to The Wrap. The film is still on track to begin shooting in April.
“Jake Gyllenhaal may not have received an Oscar nomination for Nightcrawler on Thursday but he could still end the day with a win, as David Ayer is courting his End of Watch star to replace Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg…”
The film is being labeled a “Super villain tent-pole,” and will see many DC comic villains grace the big screen where they’ll be given a chance to redeem themselves.
Jared Leto is set to play Joker, Will Smith will be Deadshot and Margot Robbie portrays Harley Quinn. Jai Courtney is also on board as Captain Boomerang with Cara Delevingne cast as Enchantress.
Ayer is reportedly thrilled to direct the movie. He revealed in his previous interview with Empire that the idea of directing a comic book movie is intriguing. “I love the passion [comic-book fans] have for these characters and these worlds. I think there’s something incredible about the comic genre and technology has finally caught up with pen and ink to render these fantastic worlds in a way that feels believable and visceral to audiences.”
Suicide Squad is set to arrive in theaters on August 5, 2016.
