Steve Carell appears as Gru from ‘Despicable Me 2’ on ‘Ellen’ saying he found a ‘good Starbucks’
Steve Carell has transformed himself into his animated counterpart, Gru, from Despicable Me and this summer’s sequel.
“This is my first time on television.” Before revealing his favorite thing about Los Angeles was the ‘good Starbucks’.
Carell, now 50, donned a bald cap, prosthetic pointy nose, and massive zip-up suit to become the grumpy (and apparently neck-less) CG-animated baddie.
Gru joked about his accent saying he was from ‘Albuquerque, New Mexico’ and warns Ellen not to ‘push this topic’ as she pressed on.
Carell’s big finale was the hysterical dance, showing off his moves through the audience, paying homage to Saturday Night Fever at one point.
In the Universal Pictures sequel, due out July 3, Carell’s Gru is recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help defeat a new menace called Eduardo.
Ken Jeong, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Benjamin Bratt, Russell Brand, and Steve Coogan also voice roles in the flick.
