‘Star Wars Rogue One’ confirmed to have Jimmy Smits as Bail Organa cameo
While the new film is mired in secrecy, one role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been confirmed: a quick cameo of Jimmy Smits, who played Bail Organa in the Star Wars prequels.
The hosts of The Talk interviewed Smits while promoting his role in the upcoming Netflix series, The Get Down, and was greeted with a bit of a surprise: a Star Wars Celebration rumor had Smits on the Rogue One reel.
Smits was surprised by fans finding the shot and ultimately confirmed that Organa will indeed appear in the upcoming spin-off in a very small role.
The latest is that writer-director-producer Tony Gilroy is taking on a much bigger role Rogue One reshoots than was originally reported and will be working very closely with director Gareth Edwards on the final cut of the film.
Rogue One is the first standalone film and stars Felicity Jones as a new character named Jyn Erso. Erso is key to the rebels’ plan to steal the Death Star design schematics, the same plans carried by Princess Leia in the opening of A New Hope.
An appearance by Darth Vader has been confirmed. Forest Whitaker takes center stage as a mysterious character and Jones will be join by a new batch of actors primed for stardom: Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed and Diego Luna.
Ben Mendelsohn is the new character walking in the long white cape. The was no reveal of Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen and little else in the way of plot.
Fans get their yearly dose of Star Wars as Rogue One arrives in theaters on December 16, 2016.
