‘Star Wars Force Awakens’: Kylo Ren is not a Sith, the Andy Serkis character is very important

The new Empire Magazine with the cover story on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which will hit newsstands this coming Thursday, promises some insight into the film’s villain: Kylo Ren.

Kylo Ren is obsessed, in his way, with Darth Vader, and that his mask and general appearance are a nod to that character.

The role of Snoke, a performance-captured digital character, played and voiced by Andy Serkis, is essentially the new Emperor.

Abrams also conpares the film’s First Order to the Nazis.

Here’s his exact quote:

“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again? What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”

The film stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew, Lupita Nyong’o, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker and Max von Sydow.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens nationwide on December 18th
