‘Star Wars Episode VII’ news: Han Solo hurt, Gareth Edwards talks and John Boyega role

The JJ Abrams led Star Wars Episode VII production rolls on as news emerged of Harrison Ford injuring his ankle. Director Gareth Edwards speaks out about the spinoff film and rumors continue that the Sith villain will be a female.

Harrison Ford as Han solo in Star Wars New Hope“Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII. He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates,” studio Disney said a statement to THR.

Their source the injury was caused by the door on the Millennium Falcon.

The Hollywood Reporter also writes about Godzilla director Gareth Edwards’ talk with film students at the Beijing Film Academy and his comments on agreeing to direct the first spinoff film.

“I am very, very lucky, living in a dream job at the moment. I’m not allowed to talk about it, it’s all very secretive, but it’s a dream come true,” he said, “Star Wars is the reason I got into filmmaking, so to be given this opportunity is like a dream. Now the pressure is on.”

He also said of his quick rise to stardom, “If I was in the audience at film school, looking at me now, I would hate me. I never could have predicted it this way.”

Latino Review summarized some of the facts thus far and notes it’s over a 50% likelihood that the villain will be a female Sith. They also summarize:

  • “John Boyega isn’t a Jedi or a Padawan at the beginning of the movie, he’s the one that has the story arc that brings him into Star Wars’ greater universe. It has echoes of Luke’s arc in A New Hope”.

 

Episode VII will feature Ford and original trilogy stars Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker as well as newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o and Max von Sydow.

Star Wars: Episode VII arrives in theaters onDecember 2015.
