Sri Lanka Names Nine Easter Sunday Suicide Bombers

(International Christian Concern) –Sri Lankan authorities have released the names of the nine suicide bombers involved the in deadly Easter Sunday bombings that rocked the island nation. According to the latest reports, the Easter Sunday bombings, which targeted churches and luxury hotels, claimed the lives of 257 people and wounded more than 700 others.

Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera released on Wednesday the names of the nine suicide bombers. In addition to the men who attacked luxury hotels in Colombo, Gunasekera shared the names of the men responsible for killing Christians as they attended Easter Sunday services.

According to that release, St. Anthony’s Church in Colombo was attacked by a local resident named Ahmed Muaz. St. Sebastian’s Church in Negombo was attacked by Mohamed Hasthun, a resident of eastern Sri Lanka. Zion Church in Batticaloa was attacked by a local resident named Mohamed Nasser Mohamed Asad.

In the days that followed the Easter Sunday bombings, Sri Lanka’s churches fell silent. Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, Sri Lanka’s most senior Catholic leader, ordered the country’s churches not hold services until police could be sure they would not be attacked.

However, in spite of the tragedy, Sri Lanka’s Christians have openly offered love and forgiveness to their persecutors. In a video posted to Facebook, Pastor Roshan Mahesan, head pastor of Zion Church, said, “We say to the suicide bomber and also to the group that sent the suicide bomber that we love you and we forgive you. We, who follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, say for the Lord to forgive these people.
